Help with Jellyspot
Answers to the questions that come up most. If yours isn't here, email support@jellyspot.com — a real person reads it.
Getting started
Three steps, then leave it alone for a week.
1. Allow location “Always”
This is the one that matters. “While Using the App” can't build a timeline, because the timeline is made of the hours you aren't looking at your phone.
2. Allow photos and health
Choose “All Photos” so Jellyspot can read the dates and locations your camera already recorded. Health adds steps, workouts and rings.
3. Give it a few days
Your first day appears immediately, but places, patterns and trips get better as Jellyspot learns your routine. Photos you already have are matched right away.
Frequently asked questions
Does background location tracking drain my battery?
No. Jellyspot uses iOS's low-power location services, which are designed for exactly this — they let the system tell the app about significant movement rather than asking for a constant GPS fix. It's smart about when it needs precision and when it doesn't.
Why does it need “Always” instead of “While Using”?
Because the interesting part of your day happens while your phone is in your pocket. “While Using the App” only reports your location when Jellyspot is open on screen, which would mean a timeline made up of the moments you were looking at your timeline. To change it: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Jellyspot.
Where is my data stored? Can you see it?
On your iPhone, in Jellyspot's own storage. We can't see it — there's no account, no server holding your content and no way for us to reach it. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
How do I add a place to a visit?
Long-press the visit on your timeline and choose Add place… You'll get nearby places from Apple Maps, you can search for one, or you can create your own — useful for a friend's flat or anywhere that isn't a business.
How do I write a journal entry?
From the Journal tab, use Camera, Import or Write at the top. You can also add one straight to a moment on your timeline: long-press and choose Create a Post… — a good way to attach a thought to what you were actually doing. Long-press works throughout the app to reveal more actions.
Search isn't finding what I expect.
Use the filter suggestions. As you type, Jellyspot offers structured suggestions for locations, places, dates and keywords — tap one and you get real structured results. Without a suggestion selected you'll only get free-text matches. Searching France and tapping the location suggestion, for example, returns every trip, photo and memory from there.
What can I ask Siri?
Try “Jellyspot, summarize last week”, “What did I do last year with Jellyspot?” or “Jellyspot, summarize location”.
Valid time periods: today, yesterday, this week, last week, last days, this month, last month, this year and last year. More commands are coming.
How do I change or revoke a permission?
Location, photos and notifications: iOS Settings → Jellyspot. There's also a shortcut inside the app under Menu → Permissions.
Health: open the Health app, tap your profile picture in the top right, then Apps → Jellyspot.
What does the subscription include, and how do I cancel?
The subscription unlocks full access to the timeline, journal, discovery and search. Manage or cancel it in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or in App Store → your profile → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; your data stays on your device either way.
I restored a purchase and it isn't showing.
Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple Account that bought the subscription, then relaunch Jellyspot. Purchases occasionally sit in a pending state awaiting approval — for example with Ask to Buy — and activate automatically once approved. If it still doesn't appear, email support@jellyspot.com with the date of purchase.
Can I get my data out, or move it to a new phone?
Jellyspot's data is included in your regular iPhone backup, so restoring a new phone from that backup brings your timeline with it. Because nothing is stored on our side, we can't recover data from a device that was wiped without a backup.
Is there an iPad or Mac version?
Jellyspot is built for iPhone today — that's where the sensors and the photos are. Other platforms are on the list; the feature request board in the app is the best place to make the case for one.

Request a feature
Jellyspot has a public feature-request board built into the app — open Menu → Feedback to post an idea, comment, or vote on what others have suggested.
Posts there are public to other users, so keep personal details out.
